Sonakshi Sinha has stepped into the legendary Helen's shoes in the reprised version of Mungda. While the original song had a rustic charm, the remix in Inder Kumar's Total Dhamaal is more Westernised. Ajay Devgn also makes an appearance in the video.
However, netizens are not impressed with the new version of the 70s classic and took to Twitter to lash out at Sonakshi and composer duo Gourov-Roshin for "ruining" it.
One Twitter user wrote, "Somewhere in India #Helen is feeling deeply insulted by this toilet remix! Are Bollywood just remixing old school classics just for jokes these days?! #Mungda. (sic)"
"#Mungda disappoints big time. Wondering why a failed actress is being promoted like this from so many years," another user wrote.
Take a look at some of the other tweets:
In an interview with a newspaper, Sonakshi admitted that it would be very difficult to match up to Helen's original. "Helen aunty's grace and charm are unmatched and it would be foolish to even try to copy her. Our version is a dance number with spruced-up music, lots of choreography and it's nothing like the original song."
Directed by Indra Kumar, Total Dhamaal is the third installment of the comedy film series, Dhamaal. The film features Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Johnny Lever, Arshad Warsi, Jaaved Jaaferi, Boman Irani, Sanjay Mishra and Esha Gupta in key roles.
Total Dhamaal revolves around the characters' search for a hidden treasure of Rs 50 crore. It is scheduled to hit the theatres on February 22 this year.
