New York to get a beach soon
New York is famous for its winter, but soon it is going to be famous for something sunny. The city of New York is about to get its own beach.
Yes, it is true. The announcement was made recently by The Hudson River Park Trust. The area which is now known as the Gansevoort Peninsula, part of it will be converted into a public park. To be specific 5.5 acres of the Gansevoort Peninsula will be fully transformed into a park with a beachfront at the aisle of the Hudson River.
As of now, it is said that the beach will be complete and open for public in the year 2022. Though the water of the Hudson River is not fit for swimming but who cares, there will be a beach.
For the same project, many companies sent out their proposals but The Hudson River Park Trust zeroed down on the proposal from James Corner Field Operations, the same design firm that is responsible for the famous Brooklyn's Domino Park and Manhattan's High Line.
According to reports, the new park along with the beach will be the largest green area within four-mile Hudson River Park.
After the completion of the project, we can expect both direct waterfront access to the Hudson River and recreational areas in the vicinity. However, the beach will have a rocky shoreline which will behave as a protective barrier at the time of floods and storms.
