Twitter has become one of the easy targets for trolls and those spreading negative comments. Twitter wants to discourage such unpleasant experiences on its platform which is why it is working on a new Hide Tweet feature.
The micro-blogging website has confirmed that it is working on a new feature called Hide Tweet that would allow users to better control the privacy of their conversations.
The feature was first spotted by Jane Manchun Wong within the code of the Twitter Android app. She tweeted about it on Thursday. She also shared the screenshots where the feature was seen inside the share button of Twitter.
The feature was later confirmed by the Michelle Yasmeen Haq- a senior product manager at the company. "People who start interesting conversations on Twitter are really important to us, and we want to empower them to make the conversations they start as healthy as possible by giving them some control. We think of conversations as an ecosystem of different groups: authors, repliers, the audience and the platform. We try to balance the experience across all four groups, and we are continuously exploring ways to shift the balance without overcorrecting.," she tweeted.
Twitter also has block, mute, and report options but these tools are not always effective. The block and mute only change the experience of the blocker, and report only works for the content that violates the company's policies.
"With this feature, the person who started a conversation could choose to hide replies to their tweets. The hidden replies would be viewable by others through a menu option. It will look a little something like this."
To use the feature, you will have to click on the "share icon on Twitter and choose hide Tweet." This would hide all the tweet replies and the other users would have to click through to see the replies on a tweet. There are also options to view all your hidden tweets or manually unhide them in future.
